2023 Preview: Appalachian State

After coming into the year as one of the favorites in the Sun Belt, it was a wholesale disappointing year for App State. Each year they are near the top in talent in the division, so the fall from grace was hopefully a blip on the radar. The season started out with a bang. They nearly took UNC down to the wire dropping 61 points on them. They then go on the road to Kyle Field and upset the Aggies in a game they dominated start to finish. And finally, a hail mary sealed the win for them against Troy with Gameday in town. It got ugly from there though. Against JMU they lost with a 24% post game win expectancy, then a loss to Texas State with a 2% win expectancy. The season rounded out with losses to Coastal, Marshall and Georgia Southern in 3 of their last 4. They went 2-5 in one score games, which could be viewed as noise, or it could be reversion the program likely doesn’t want to see.
